White House senior adviser Jared Kushner is exploring changes to his personal legal team, given that his current attorney has ties to special counsel Robert Mueller, The New York Times reported.

Also, Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, is looking at high-powered criminal trial attorneys, something his current attorney, Jamie Gorelick, is not, The Times reported.

But at the fore is Gorelick and Mueller were law partners prior to Mueller being appointed special counsel to investigate Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential election and alleged ties to Trump's former campaign, The Times reported.

"After the appointment of our former partner Robert Mueller as special counsel, we advised Mr. Kushner to obtain the independent advice of a lawyer with appropriate experience as to whether he should continue with us as his counsel," Gorelick said in a statement Sunday to The Times.

It was reported last week that Mueller is looking into Kushner's business ties to Russia as part of his probe.

One attorney being looked at by Team Kushner is Abbe Lowell, who defended notorious Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff in his corruption scandal 12 years ago, The Times reported.

But for now, Gorelick continues to prep Kushner for his upcoming meeting with investigators from the Senate Intelligence Committee as part of its probe into collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia, The Times reported.
