Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., said Tuesday that President Donald Trump "should keep his promise" and release his tax returns.
"He promised he would," Lankford said when asked if Trump should release his tax returns, while at a meeting with constituents in Claremore, according to the Tulsa World. "He should keep his promise."
Trump has maintained that he cannot release his tax returns until the Internal Revenue Service has completed its audit of his finances. The IRS claims nothing prevents Trump from releasing his returns while being audited. Former President Richard Nixon did so in 1973, according to CNN.
Last Saturday, days before taxes were due, tens of thousands across the country marched to demand the release of Trunp's tax returns, while over 25,000 appeared at a rally in Washington, D.C., according to The Hill.
