James Comey says he bears no hatred towards President Donald Trump who fired him as FBI director a year ago.
"I am very worried that we hate so quickly," Comey said Wednesday as promoted his bestselling memoir "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership" in Miami.
"I don't hate Donald Trump. I don't hate people that voted for Donald Trump."
The Miami Herald reports Comey explained to 2,000 supporters at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts that had never planned to write a book about his experiences in law enforcement.
"And then I got fired. You've heard that part," he quipped.
What's next for Comey is unclear, but one thing he will not be doing is running for public office.
"[I'd make a] crappy candidate … I hate the idea of asking people for money," Comey said.
In a Quinnipiac University National poll released last month, American voters said don't like Comey but they still trust him more than Trump.
