White House principal deputy press secretary Raj Shah on Thursday framed President Donald Trump's infrastructure plan by saying state and local governments need to have "skin in the game."
A guest on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" morning program, Shah previewed Trump's talking points Thursday in Richfield, Ohio, where the president is touting his plan to couple private sector funding with state and local governments.
"The reason we want that is that we want local officials making decisions. We want local governments, state governments with some skin in the game," Shah said on Fox News. "When you have that, they're going to make better decisions about what needs to be funded in their states and local communities."
With states using their own tax dollars they "make smarter decisions and spend their money more wisely," Shah said.
