Reince Priebus: No Amnesty for Illegals Under GOP-Led Senate

By    |   Tuesday, 28 October 2014 07:02 AM

Reaching out to tea party Republicans, the chairman of the Republican National Committee Reince Priebus promised that if the GOP wins the Senate on Nov. 4 it would do "everything we can do to stop" executive amnesty for illegal immigrants, Breitbart reported.

Speaking on a "town hall" conference call co-hosted with TeaParty.net, Priebus said that the RNC had not been involved in primary battles between establishment and tea party candidates.

"Just to be very clear on this: We do not spend money in primaries," said Priebus.

"I think it's important to build our party through addition and make sure that we don't subtract people out of our party," Priebus said. "It's also important for the tea party to hold the Republican Party accountable. I get that. It's not always a cheerleading opportunity," Breitbart reported.

Much of the call was devoted to the immigration issue and President Barack Obama's plans to grant illegal immigrants executive amnesty.

"It is un-American for a president to try and do such a thing," Priebus said, adding that Republicans could be counted on to take all possible measures to guarantee that amnesty "doesn't happen."

He said that border security needed to be the priority before any discussion on immigration.

Priebus questioned why the promised border fence had not been completed. And he accused the president of dragging out the issue and lying to both supporters and opponents of immigration reform.

"He starts to hear people complaining about what's happening on the border with an election coming. So he says 'I'm going to pull back on the executive order' and then the last chapter here is he hears from people on the immigration reform side that they're upset with the president.

"So then he says, 'OK, I'll do it — after the election.'"

According to Breitbart, "Priebus is the latest high-profile Republican to define the midterm elections as a referendum on the president's immigration policies."
