Howard Dean, who chaired the Democratic National Committee from 2005 to 2009, announced Thursday he'll run for the position again.
The former 2004 presidential candidate and Vermont governor said in a tweet Thursday that it's time for Democrats to get organized and "focus on the young."
The position is now held by interim chair Donna Brazile, whose term ends in March.
Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, one of only two Muslim Americans in the House of Representatives, also has his eyes on the position, though he hasn't formally announced a bid, The Huffington Post reported Thursday.
Usually, the DNC chair is effectively selected by a Democratic president, but in years when the leadership changes to a Republican administration, the head of the party is chosen by a vote of state and local party officials and delegates, the outlet noted.
