President-elect Donald Trump proclaimed his true feelings for House Speaker Paul Ryan during a speech Thursday just a few blocks from the White House.
"I love Paul," Trump told an audience at Trump International Hotel in Washington. "I don't know if Paul is here. He's out writing legislation. He's got so much legislation to write. He never had it so good. He's actually got somebody that's gonna sign it."
"I'm starting to really, really love Paul. I just want to let the world know, we're doing very well together."
The Washington Post published video of Trump's remarks.
Trump and Ryan clashed several times during the presidential campaign, with Ryan not fully onboard with Trump's candidacy until it was clear he would be the Republican party's nominee. And even then, Ryan occasionally had a hard time standing up for Trump on certain issues.
Since Trump won the election, however, the two men have become closer as they prepare to work together. The GOP now controls the executive and legislative branches, something both Trump and Ryan are looking forward to.
Ryan has made repealing and replacing Obamacare his top priority at the moment, a topic that caused some friction this week between him and the incoming president.
