Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., called for hearings on allegations that Scott Pruitt, the Environmental Protection Agency administrator, used government resources to retaliate against former members of his staff.
The congressman made the request in a letter to Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., the chairman off the Oversight Committee. He posted the letter in a tweet.
Krishnamoorthi wrote the letter after The Daily Beast on Thursday reported claims that Pruitt sought to use his authority to pitch news stories that would be damaging to former staff members.
The allegations in The Daily Beast report included Pruitt ordering aides to pitch stories to media outlets that would harm staffers who had left the EPA on bad terms. Another allegation said that he had EPA employees leak information about claims of misconduct by a former deputy chief of staff, the report said.
One allegation said that Pruitt told allies that his former director of scheduling, Millan Hupp, had lied to a congressional committee about Pruitt asking her to obtain for him a used Trump hotel mattress, the report said.
