Former President Bill Clinton said Wednesday his wife is suffering from the flu, not pneumonia as has been reported and confirmed by her campaign.

"It's a crazy time we live in. You know, when people think there's something unusual about getting the flu," Clinton said during a rally for his wife Hillary.

"Last time I checked, millions of people were getting it every year."

Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign later told Politico the former president misspoke about her ailment and that she does have pneumonia.

Questions about Hillary Clinton's health have swirled for weeks. On Sunday, she left a September 11 memorial ceremony early and appeared to stumble and faint as she was helped into her campaign van.

It was later revealed Clinton is suffering from pneumonia and she decided to take a few days off from campaigning to rest at home. On Wednesday, her campaign said she was diagnosed with mild, non-contagious bacterial pneumonia  last week.

Despite critics questions, Clinton's doctor Lisa Bardack said she is "fit to serve" as president.
