Baseball great Hank Aaron says he understands why some athletes have been turning down President Donald Trump’s invitations to the White House and he probably would too if asked to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

"I can understand where the players are coming from. I really do," Aaron, 84, told The Nation’s Dave Zirin.

"I understand they have their own issues and things they feel conviction about. They have a right to that, and I probably would be the same way, there’s no question about it."

The former Milwaukee Braves right fielder who had a .305 batting average, 755 home runs, 2,297 runs batted in, said that in the current White House, "There’s no one there that I want to see."

Earlier this month, Trump rescinded his invitation to the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles after some said they would not attend in protest over the president’s policies and criticism of players who knelt during the National Anthem. The NBA Champion Golden State Warriors also declined an invite.
