Forty-six percent of voters approve of the Republican healthcare plan, compared to 35 percent who disapprove, a new Politico/Morning Consult poll reveals.

Here are the survey highlights:

  • Thirty-four percent say the GOP plan will make the U.S. healthcare system better, compared to 33 percent who said it will be worse and 11 percent says it will have no impact either way.
  • Twenty-four percent say the plan goes too far in making changes to the healthcare system, while 27 percent say it does not go far enough and 17 percent says it makes the right amount of changes.
  • Thirty-six percent say it will increase healthcare costs for their families, while 23 percent say it will decrease costs and 18 percent say it will have no impact.
  • Twenty-five percent say the bill will increase the number of people with health insurance coverage, compared to 38 percent who say it will decrease it.
  • Forty-seven percent say they approve of Obamacare, compared to 48 percent who do not.

"Given the wave of criticism from both parties following the rollout of the bill, this is a relatively strong starting point for GOP leaders and the White House," said Kyle Dropp, Morning Consult's co-founder and chief research officer. "However, it will be important to track how public opinion stands up as more information is released in the coming weeks.

Politico notes the poll was conducted before the release of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, which estimated that 24 million few Americans would have insurance a decade from now.

Here is how the rest of the poll breaks down:

  • Fifty-two percent of voters approve of the job Donald Trump is doing as president, while 43 percent disapprove.
  • Fifty-six percent approve of Trump's revised travel ban order, while 34 percent disagree.
  • Forty-six percent say the country is headed in the right direction, compared to 54 percent who say it is on the wrong track.

The poll surveyed 1,983 registered voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
