GOP Sens Getting Calls From Voters Worried About Healthcare Bill

Republican senators are getting hit by waves of phone calls from voters worried about the GOP healthcare bill, Politico reported.

The office of Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., said calls about the bill have been overwhelmingly negative.

"Since last Thursday, the Cochran offices have received approximately 224 constituent calls against and two in favor of discussion draft of the healthcare bill," said Chris Gallegos, communications director for Cochran.

And Jill Gerber, communications manager for Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said constituents are calling in to express their opinions on the healthcare bill, although she did note some calls are coming from out of state.

"Grassley's office has had an uptick in calls since the Senate discussion draft bill came out last Thursday," Gerber said. "In general, over the past few weeks, there's been a lot of contact to the office about healthcare.

Meanwhile, the office of Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho said the majority of calls centered on Medicaid.

We've had several phone calls — there's still a mix," communication director Lindsay Nothern said. "But they probably run stronger against the Republican bill than for it. Most of them want to see changes in the bill."

And the calls have not just been limited to Republican lawmakers, Politico noted.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., tweeted these statistics just before the GOP's healthcare bill was released:
