Republican governors are headed to the capitol this weekend to discuss the future of Obamacare, but the divide over Medicaid expansion could hinder the party's plan to repeal and replace the healthcare law.

Obamacare offered an extension to the Medicaid program to help the poor and disabled, which expanded access to 11 million people.

Of the governors traveling to Washington, 17 lead states that rejected the expansion, while 16 come from states that accepted it. Perhaps the most vocal proponent, among GOP governors, is Ohio's John Kasich, who called the plan to roll back the expansion "a very, very bad idea."

"We cannot turn our back on the most vulnerable," he added, according to The Hill.

Nevada's Brian Sandoval wrote to Congress in January defending his decision to accept the expansion in his state.

"These decisions made health care accessible to many Nevadans who had never had coverage options before," he wrote, according to the Hill.

Politico reportedly obtained a draft of a bill from House Republicans, which "would dismantle the Obamacare subsidies and scrap its Medicaid expansion," though related House committees refused to comment on a draft that is unfinished and expected to change.

According to a poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation, the vast majority, 84 percent surveyed, thought keeping the Medicaid expansion was "somewhat" or "very" important for the GOP's replacement plan. This includes almost all Democrats, 95 percent, most independents, 84 percent, and the majority of Republicans, 69 percent.

In the states that accepted the expansion and have Republican governors, 87 percent said it was important to keep the expansion, and 80 percent of those in states that did not accept it said the same.
