Arizona Congressional Candidate: Most Mass Shooters Are Democrats

By    |   Monday, 19 May 2014 12:17 PM EDT

Democrats can be blamed for almost all gun-related "fiascos," when it comes to mass shootings, an Arizona Republican congressional candidate claimed during a weekend GOP primary debate.

"It's totally ridiculous if you look at all the fiascos that have occurred, 99 percent of them have been by Democrats pulling their guns out and shooting people," said 1st congressional district candidate Gary Kiehne, the Arizona Daily Star reported. "So I don't think you have a problem with the Republicans."

Kiehne, who Politico reports is a businessman in the oil and gas industry, said he's an avid supporter of gun rights, and said he owns more guns and ammunition than all the other candidates in Arizona's primary. He also said everybody should own a gun, and urged people who don't have guns to buy one. Kiehne commented at a primary election debate in Florence, Ariz.

Candidate Adam Kwasman, also said he defends gun rights, as "it's a God-given, natural right to keep and bear arms," but joked he is "the worst duck hunter you have ever meant."

Kwasman said he backs gun rights because of his Jewish background, saying that in World War II, guns were one of the first possessions confiscated by Nazis.

Candidate Andy Tobin did not attend the primary debate. The primary election is on Aug. 26, with the winner to square off against incumbent Democrat Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick in November.
