Former presidential candidate Gary Johnson is peeved that President Donald Trump has reneged on his campaign promise to leave pot policy to the states and said he hopes the reversal "dooms" his re-election chances, the Washington Examiner reported.
Johnson, the libertarian candidate in the 2016 election, was reacting to Attorney General Jeff Sessions' decision Thursday to rescind the Cole Memo, the Obama administration policy that left alone states that decided to legalize marijuana for recreational use.
"I hope it dooms his re-election," Johnson told the Examiner. "Trump promised to leave marijuana to the states."
Johnson, who has worked in the pot industry and advocates for legalization, told the Examiner that Trump and Sessions are "grossly underestimating the anger this will create."
