Newly released FBI documents from former special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation detail the day President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, Fox News reports.

The new documents were released in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by BuzzFeed News and CNN. They include redacted copies of "302" records, which are interviews conducted by federal investigators.

According to Fox News, one of the records released was an interview with an unidentified supervisory special agent who recalled the events of May 9, 2017.

The agent told investigators that at approximately 4:51 p.m., the White House asked the FBI for Comey's email address, according to the document.

"Upon being asked whether the Director's unclassified or classified email was needed, the White House representative advised [redacted] 'it doesn't matter, just give us his email address.'" the agent said.

The agent said Comey’s unclassified, secret and top-secret addresses were sent over.

Then, about four minutes later, the White House called the FBI to inform them that White House representative Keith Schiller was at FBI headquarters to deliver a letter, the document states.

Schiller was met at the FBI’s visitor center at 5:38 p.m. by someone, but their name is redacted in the report. Schiller failed to reach Comey's chief of staff James Rybicki before that, according to the report.

Schiller then handed over the letter and was taken to Comey's executive suite, but Comey was not there.

The agent recalled that Schiller left the letter with someone in the office.

By then, the news that Comey had been fired was already out.

The agent said when Schiller left, someone commented the person who received the letter "may have just handled history."
