Facebook and Twitter likely restricted the spread of a New York Post story alleging Hunter Biden introduced his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, to an executive at a Ukrainian energy firm, because their employees and PACs shelled out millions for Democrat federal candidates in the 2020 election cycle, according to NewsBusters, a self-professed media watchdog that reveals and analyzes liberal media bias.

NewsBusters, citing donation records from Open Secrets, said Twitter individuals donated $347,270 (98.99%) to Democrat federal candidates and $3,556 (1.01%) to Republicans.

Facebook individuals and PACs gave $2.4 million (91.68%) to Democrat federal candidates and $218,576 (8.32%) to Republicans.

Open Secrets tracks contributions from PACs and individuals giving $200 or more. “Individuals” consists of members, employees, or owners of the organization, and those individuals’ immediate family members.

Twitter cited its hacked material and private information policies as the reason for its censure, while Facebook said it reduced the story’s distribution pending a fact-check review.

Twitter, which locked the New York Post out of its account, later admitted its response was “not great.”

"Our communication around our actions on the @nypost article was not great," CEO Jack Dorsey posted to his personal Twitter account. "And blocking URL sharing via tweet or DM (direct message) with zero context as to why we're blocking: unacceptable."

The Post story said it uncovered emails that indicate Hunter Biden introduced his father, the Democrat nominee for president, to Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings.

Joe Biden has said he has “never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings.”
