The Washington Post media critic Erik Wemple on Wednesday took to task the media site BuzzFeed for publishing unsubstantiated documents regarding President-elect Donald Trump and stowing its rationale for doing so under, "Let the readers decide for themselves."
The documents, reportedly circulating for months, purport to show a long-time connection between Trump and Russia and that the Russians have compromising information that could be used as leverage against the president-elect.
However, the details published by BuzzFeed have not been verified by any persons or intelligence agencies.
"Americans can only 'make up their own minds' if they build their own intelligence agencies, with a heavy concentration of operatives in Russia and Eastern Europe," Wemple wrote.
