President Donald Trump's claims that his predecessor had his building in New York City surveilled are "a distraction," according to one California Democrat.

"Any suggestion that the Obama administration was spying on Trump's team — it's a distraction, it's a smoke bomb and it's been dismissed roundly," said Rep. Eric Swalwell on Fox News Monday.

Trump doubled down on his claims on Sunday, saying during an interview with Financial Times that the allegation "is turning out to be true."
