House Intelligence Committee member Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., slammed former National Security adviser Michael Flynn's offer to testify in exchange for immunity.

"Generally, innocent people don't seek immunity," Swalwell said during an interview on "CNN Tonight" program. "I don't want to hear from him in a setting where there are conditions.

"I think we should hear from him in the public."

Flynn has told the FBI and congressional officials investigating possible ties between Donald Trump's presidential campaign and Russia that he is willing to be interviewed in exchange for immunity from prosecution, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Flynn was an adviser to the campaign. He went on to become one of Trump's top aides in the White House, the newspaper noted.

The Journal said he was "privy to some of the most sensitive foreign-policy deliberations of the new administration and was directly involved in discussions about the possible lifting of sanctions on Russia imposed by the Obama administration."

Flynn was forced to resign after acknowledging he misled officials about his conversations with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. during the presidential transition, according to the Journal.

Aides to the House Intelligence Committee say they have not received any requests from Flynn, CNN reported. And a spokesman for the Senate Intelligence committee declined comment.

"Ideally, we work together as far as witness testimony," Swalwell said. "This is not anything that I or I believe my colleagues are familiar with. We want to hear from Michael Flynn. We want to hear from Paul Manafort, Carter Page and Roger Stone," he said, referring to three former Trump aides.
