As the early results were rolling in on Super Tuesday, a clear two-horse race was developing as Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Mike Bloomberg were below the 15% delegate threshold in the first three states to close their primary polls.
Warren and Bloomberg were in a precarious position heading into the biggest night of the Democratic presidential primary season, and potentially getting shut out in Virginia, Vermont, and North Carolina might signal a long road for their campaigns.
California and Texas are the largest states to deliver delegates Tuesday night, but former Vice President Joe Biden won Virginia and North Carolina at around 50% of the vote, while Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., won that support in his home state of Vermont, according to AP's early poll results.
Only Biden was above 15% to get Vermont delegates, while Sanders was above 15% in both Virginia and North Carolina.
Warren can potentially gain some delegates in her home state of Massachusetts Tuesday night, while Bloomberg has expressed some concern he would not win a state on Super Tuesday.
Bloomberg has a silver lining in the early results, winning American Samoa, according to CNN projections.
American Samoa is a U.S. territory that carries a total of six delegates.
