Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao to Resign

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao s resigning effective Monda, making her the first Trump administration Cabinet member to leave in the wake of Wednesday's violence at the U.S. Capitol.

In a statement Thursday, Chao, who is married to Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell, said the violence  “has deeply troubled me in a way that I simply cannot set aside.”

She said her department will continue to cooperate with Democrat Joe Biden’s designated nominee to head the department, former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Chao has served in Trump's Cabinet for all four years.
