Alabama's Democratic candidate for the Senate Doug Jones easily outpaced his Republican challenger Roy Moore in fundraising, according to campaign finance reports filed Thursday, USA Today reported Friday.
Jones, a former U.S. attorney, raised about $10.1 million during the two-month period from Oct. 1 through Nov. 22, while Moore raised $1.76 million. The period included reports of sexual harassment claims against Moore involving teenaged girls from four decades ago when he was in his early 30s, though it isn't clear what effect the allegations may have had on fundraising.
Though Jones' fundraising surpassed that of Moore, the former Alabama chief justice was also outspent in the Republican primary runoff earlier this year and still beat his challenger Sen. Luther Strange. In addition, a Real Clear Politics poll showed Moore currently holds a two-point lead in the special election set for Dec. 12.
"Our campaign is honored by the overwhelming grassroots support we're receiving," Jones campaign manager Wade Perry said in a statement. "It's another sign that Doug's message of bringing both sides together to focus on the kitchen table issues that matter to hardworking Alabamians is resonating."
The Jones campaign reported bringing in $9.9 million from individual donations and $150,000 from other sources during the two-month period, The Hill reported Friday. Moore reported raising $1.7 million from individual donors and $52,000 from other sources.
