Trump 'Feels Terribly' for Kavanaugh

By    |   Tuesday, 18 September 2018 03:39 PM EDT

President Donald Trump says he “feels terribly” for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh in the wake of sexual assault allegations against him.

“This is not a man that deserves this,” Trump said Tuesday during a joint press conference at the White House with Polish President Andrzej Duda. “I feel so badly for him that he’s going through this. I just think he is at a level that we rarely see, not only in government, but anywhere in life. I feel terribly for him, his wife, who is an incredible, lovely woman, and his beautiful young daughters.”

California professor Christine Blasey Ford alleged in a letter that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her more than 30 years ago when both were teenagers in high school. She went public with her claim over the weekend, and senators on the Judiciary Committee have scrambled to figure out next steps – including a potential hearing that would proceed with Ford.

Trump said he hoped Ford would “come forward, state her case,” but didn’t mention her by name.

Ford has not yet agreed to testify, and has not responded to requests to do so.

Kavanaugh has vehemently denied the allegations.
