Some of the GOP's top donors and fundraisers are joining the effort to raise $1 billion for Donald Trump's general election effort.
The names include New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, and former ambassador Mel Sembler. Both were leading fundraisers for Trump's former rival for the nomination, Jeb Bush.
Also on the team: Wisconsin roofing billionaire Diane Hendricks, a former Scott Walker backer.
Three former Republican National Committee finance chairmen also are on board the Trump Victory Fund: Dallas investor Ray Washburne, who was on the Chris Christie team; Ron Weiser, part of Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential effort; and Elliott Broidy, a venture capitalist and board member of the Republican Jewish Coalition.
The team will be headed up by RNC finance chairman Lew Eisenberg with support from Steve Mnuchin, who leads Trump's fundraising team,
The Hill reports.
"This is an impressive leadership team comprised of talented individuals working together to unite the party and win what will be the most important election of our lifetime," Trump said in a prepared statement announcing the team on Tuesday.
"The money raised is an investment in the Republican Party and the future of our country, which, as president, I am going to make better and stronger than ever before," Trump said.
The Trump Victory Committee is a joint effort between the Trump campaign and the RNC to raise money for the presidential effort and downticket races across the country.
