President Donald Trump's eldest son will meet with the House Intelligence Committee behind closed doors to explain his communications with Russians during the 2016 election, CNN reports.

Donald Trump Jr. is set to testify next week, though his attorney would not confirm or deny that he will attend, shortly after it became public that he communicated with WikiLeaks through private Twitter messages during the election season.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said last week that Trump Jr.'s communications with WikiLeaks were "innocuous."

"I read those emails. He only responded to two or three of them, and they were very innocuous," Grassley said on CNN Tuesday. "So I don't even know why you'd be asking about him if you read them."

According to The Atlantic, Trump Jr. exchanged several direct messages with someone at WikiLeaks, including one message where WikiLeaks sent a password to an anti-Trump website.

He previously sat down for a five-hour meeting with the Senate Judiciary Committee to discuss his meeting with a Russian lawyer who promised compromising information on his father's then-opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Multiple members of the president's family have been asked to testify before congressional committees, including Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, who's been accused of being uncooperative with the Senate Judiciary Committee.
