President Donald Trump voiced strong support for Republican winners in Connecticut, Kansas and Minnesota races.
“It is about time that Connecticut had a real and talented governor,” the president said in a tweet. “Bob Stefanowski is the person needed to do the job. Tough on crime, Bob is also a big cutter of taxes.”
Stefanowski is a former General Electric executive who pitched himself to voters as “Bob the Rebuilder.” He faces a fellow wealthy businessman, Democrat Ned Lamont, in the November general election.
Trump also tweeted support for Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who narrowly defeated Gov. Jeff Colyer in the Republican primary. Kobach will face Democrat Laura Kelly in November.
“My friend and very early supporter Kris Kobach won the Republican Nomination for Governor of Kansas last night in a tough race against a very fine opponent,” Trump said in his tweet. “Kris will win in November and be a great governor.”
Trump also tweeted support for Pete Stauber, who won the GOP primary for the northeastern Minnesota congressional seat being vacated by Democrat Rick Nolan. Stauber's campaign got a boost from visits in June by Trump and last week by Vice President Mike Pence.
Stauber is running against Democrat Joe Radinovich in the race to represent Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District.
“A big star in hockey, he will be an even bigger star in politics,” Trump said in a tweet. “It all begins with a win in November. Pete has my complete and total endorsement!”
