President Donald Trump tweeted Friday that "tremendous pressure is building" for the southern border wall and an end to sanctuary cities.
The work in San Diego will be replacing 14 miles of "old, dilapidated landing mats" with a "steel bollard wall," border chief Ronald Vitiello announced last month.
Rep. Luke Messer, R-Ind., on Wednesday talked up his bill - Funding Americans First Act - that he says would put an end to taxpayers subsidizing sanctuary cities.
"Frankly, as the American people learn about this, it’s going to gain momentum quickly, and we'll get this changed," Messer said.
