Republican Congressman Don Young defended the idea of arming teachers by suggesting that the Holocaust happened because Jews were unarmed.
"How many millions of people were shot and killed because they were unarmed? Fifty million in Russia, because their citizens weren't armed," Young, R-Alaska, said last week at his speech to the Alaska Municipal League.
"How many Jews were put into the ovens because they were unarmed?" Young said.
Young made the comments answering a question from Dmitri Shein, a Democrat running against Young, who asked the lawmaker what his plans were to protect kids in school.
Young answered that he's in favor of arming teachers after blaming violent video games and the "family structure" for the rise in school shootings.
