President Donald Trump wants to deport people who are in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said Monday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"We thought the president's main goal was to build a wall from sea to shining sea, a 19th-century answer to a 21st-century problem. It turns out his goal is the deportation of Dreamers," Durbin said, referring to DACA recipients, who were brought to the U.S. as children by illegal immigrants.

"He wants to see these young people — who have been raised in America, have proven themselves in America, and want to be part of our future — to leave and their parents with them."

"Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough pointed out that Trump's mother was an immigrant.

"Hypocrisy is no obstacle to the president's conviction on many issues, including immigration," Durbin said.

"Immigration is a critical part of our past and our future, and yet, this president is reviving sentiments we have not seen in 90 years plus in America, anti-immigration sentiments. They are no longer making arguments about security, no longer making arguments about employment. It is about the kind of people that come in."

The Supreme Court rejected a Trump administration appeal that was aimed at ending deportation protections for DACA recipients.
