Republican Rep. Diane Black is considering running for governor of Tennessee, The Hill reported.
Officially, the House Budget Committee chairman has yet to decide whether to enter the race, but House colleagues and GOP sources say she is likely to announce her candidacy as early as this summer, according to the website.
"She's probably going to get in," said Beth Campbell, a Republican National Committeewoman for Tennessee.
A Vanderbilt University poll found that Black has the highest name recognition in the state among potential candidates.
But Black insisted she has not yet made any decisions about her political future, the Hill noted.
"That decision has not been made yet," she said. "There are a lot of rumors out there. I will let you know if I make that decision."
According to the Hill, the winner of the August 2018 Republican primary likely will go on to win the general election since Tennessee is considered such a strong GOP state.
