Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, has denied a credential request from the Des Moines Register to cover his election-night event in Sioux City, Iowa, calling it a "leftist propaganda media outlet," the paper reported Tuesday.
"We are not granting credentials to the Des Moines Register or any other leftist propaganda media outlet with no concern for reporting the truth," Jeff King, the son of the northwest Iowa representative, who is a paid campaign staffer, wrote to the Register via email.
It should not be seen as a surprise, though.
The Register has had issue with Rep. King for years, according to the report.
The paper also endorsed Scholten and every single Democrat against a Republican. The cost of doing so is access to Rep. King's election night event.
Rep. King seeks his ninth two-year term in a GOP stronghold district, but he is facing a challenge from J.D. Scholten. Regardless of the political bias against all Republicans, the paper claimed it would do "everything in its power" to be fair.
"The Des Moines Register will continue doing everything in its power to cover Rep. King fairly," Register Executive Editor Carol Hunter told her paper Tuesday. "This decision is unfortunate because it not only shuts out the Des Moines Register reporter, but also the people of Iowa."
President Donald Trump had also denied credentials to the Des Moines Register for his campaign events in 2015 because it called for the then-candidate to withdraw from the presidential race. Their call was not headed, and President Trump won the election.
