President Donald Trump on Thursday pushed the Department of Justice to reject a plea deal for the former IT aide to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., who is charged with bank fraud.
Imran Awan, who formerly worked for several Democratic members of Congress as an IT aide, allegedly conspired with his wife to commit bank fraud by obtaining a home equity loan from the Congressional Federal Credit Union on a rental property, a violation of CFCU’s policies.
According to a Fox News report on Wednesday, the two may have reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. Trump took to Twitter the next morning to voice his displeasure.
Wasserman Schultz told Politico in a statement about Trump’s tweet: "I’m focused on doing my job. Donald Trump should focus on doing his."
