With the deadline for immigration reform rapidly approaching, President Donald Trump is continuing to nudge lawmakers and take shots at Democrats as they try to come up with a solution that will pass in both houses of Congress.
Trump tweeted this Friday morning:
People who have benefitted from the DACA program, short for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, have been allowed to stay in the United States despite coming here illegally as children with their parents. The Trump administration instituted a March 5 deadline to pass legislation that would give them permanent protection from being deported.
If no legislation is passed and signed into law, hundreds of thousands of people would be subject to deportation.
Trump opposed a bipartisan immigration bill introduced by Republicans and Democrats in the Senate, legislation that came up short in a Thursday vote. Another bill proposed by several Republicans also failed in a Senate vote.
