Ten Democratic senators have written a letter to White House chief of staff John Kelly and counsel Don McGahn asking for more information about disgraced Trump aide Rob Porter, The Hill reported.
They also asked for details about a report some three dozen White House officials are still working without full security clearances.
The letter was sent two days after Porter resigned following allegations he repeatedly abused two ex-wives, and that he did not have a full security clearance, although he handled classified information.
"We recognize that you and the president have tremendous discretion in deciding whom to hire to work in the White House," the letter said.
"However, we are troubled by published accounts suggesting that you decided to hire Mr. Porter despite the fact that he could not get a security clearance and that you were aware of the specific domestic violence allegations made against him."
According to reports, Kelly and McGahn knew of the allegations for several months.
Among the Democrats signing the letter were to sign the letter were Sens. Richard Blumenthal, Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, Tammy Duckworth, Elizabeth Warren, and Corey Booker.
