House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes on Friday called on panel Democrats to "make the appropriate technical changes and redactions" to its response to the Republican document alleging FBI and Justice Department surveillance abuses in the Russia probe.
"Along with other Intelligence Committee Republicans, I had warned that the Democratic memo contains many sources and methods," the eighth-term Californian said on Twitter.
Nunes said ranking Intelligence Democrat Adam Schiff, also of California, "pledged to seek the input of the Department of Justice and FBI regarding the memo's public release.
"It's no surprise that these agencies recommended against publishing the memo without redactions," he added.
President Donald Trump kicked back the Democratic response Friday, with White House counsel Don McGahn citing concerns about classified material being included in the document.
Intelligence members voted Monday to release their document, sending it to Trump for a five-day review.
The Republican memo was released last week.
Nunes said in his statement: "Intelligence Committee Republicans encourage the minority to accept the DOJ's recommendations and make the appropriate technical changes and redactions so that no sources and methods are disclosed and their memo can be declassified as soon as possible."
In addition, Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan urged Democrats to work with the FBI and Justice "to scrub the memo of any sources and methods of intelligence gathering, as the majority memo was, so that it can be released," a representative said in a statement.
