President Donald Trump's agenda is being stymied in an attempt to delegitimize his administration, according to a new book "Trump's Enemies" written by two Republican operatives close to the president, The Washington Post reported.
The book by former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and deputy David Bossie, "Trump's Enemies: How the Deep State is Undermining the Presidency," to be released Tuesday, reads like President Trump's Twitter grievances, as the authors paint Trump as the victim of disloyalty and "swamp creatures," according to the Post.
The "resistance" embedded in the White House, Congress, Justice Department, and courts "attack the administration with a thousand cuts," the book reads, per the report.
"They do this in complete disregard to the millions of Americans who voted for Donald Trump," it continues, per the Post. "They do it only for their own ends. There are far too many people in the deep reaches of the federal government who harbor as deep a hatred of Trump as does anyone from the Clinton/Obama cabal. The thing is, they get away with it when no one is looking."
The authors have traveled on campaign trips with President Trump this fall, but they also write they were restricted from West Wing access at the White House by chief of staff John Kelly.
Among the claims in the book is an Oval Office conversation with President Trump, where he told the authors how special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into election meddling and potential Trump campaign collusion "makes my base stronger."
"I would have never said this to you, but I think the level of love now is far greater than when we won," President Trump is quoted in the book, per the Post.
Vice President Mike Pence replied, "As strong or stronger."
The book calls the Russia investigation "a sweeping work of fiction so complex, so audacious, so unbelievable that if they gave out awards for bad excuses, the Democrats would win an Oscar, an Emmy, and maybe even the Heisman Trophy," according to the Post.
Among those mentioned in "Trump's Enemies," the Post reported:
- Former FBI Director James Comey: "I should have fired him the day after I won and announced please get the hell out," Trump said.
- Congressional Republicans "let me down" with U.S.-Mexico border wall funding.
- Both former personal attorney Michael Cohen and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort as a "rat" for cooperating with Mueller's investigation.
- Former press secretary Sean Spicer and former deputy chief of staff Joe Hagin were member's of "the Nov. 9 Club," establishment Republicans who angled for White House jobs only after President Trump was elected.
- Former National Economic Council director Gary Cohn was a "limousine liberal" and "the poster boy for the disloyal staff conspiring against President Trump."
- James R. Clapper Jr. and John Brennan, Obama administration intelligence officials sought to "nullify the election and bring down the president."
- Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., is "crazy."
- Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is "many people's favorite liberal wacko.
- Sen. Kamala D. Harris, D-Calif., is an "enemy of President Trump."
