Actress Cynthia Nixon, who last month announced her candidacy for the governor of New York, reportedly favors the legalization of marijuana.
According to The New York Times, Nixon — a Democrat — revealed her stance on the issue at a private fundraiser last week.
The Times cited several people who attended the event, which took place in a home in New York City's Upper West Side, as saying Nixon wants to se the drug legalized and taxed.
"She said that if marijuana is legal we can tax it and make a lot of money from that," author Julie Klam said.
Isabel Gillies hosted the event and told the Times that Nixon said she plans to "legalize marijuana and put a tax on it" if she is elected.
Another attendee said Nixon "pumped her first and said yes" when asked if she would legalize the drug.
New York currently allows marijuana for medical use.
Nixon made her campaign announcement March 19 via a tweet.
