Sen. Cory Gardner announced he is in self-quarantine after learning a constituent he met with last week had tested positive for the coronavirus.
The Colorado Republican learned of his exposure just hours after attending a Senate Republican caucus lunch on Tuesday, according to Politico.
"While I am not showing any symptoms at this time, I have made the decision to self-quarantine out of an abundance of caution," he said.
Gardner is in self-isolation in Washington, D.C., and following the advice of his doctor, according to his spokesperson.
Other members of Congress have also gone into self-quarantine after possible exposure to the virus, including Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C. Meadows is replacing Mick Mulvaney as White House chief of staff. Mulvaney is also in voluntary self-isolation after his niece came in contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.
Politico noted that so far, no members of Congress have tested positive for the coronavirus.
