Sen. Cory Gardner on Sunday refuted a New York Times report quoting him saying GOP donors are “furious” at congressional inaction on an Obamacare repeal, declaring “this has nothing to do with politics.”
In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” the Colorado Republican, who heads the National Republican Senatorial Committee, bristled at the suggestion Republicans have to act to appease GOP donors.
“This has nothing to do with politics, has nothing to do with donors,” he said, adding, however, the repeal effort “has everything to do with people of this country who are suffering each and every day under a health care bill that is failing to meet their needs” and is “bankrupting them.”
Gardner charged those opposed to the new Obamacare repeal bill “want this to be about politics not policy.”
“But the bottom line for the past seven years we've made it a high priority to put something in place of the Affordable Care Act that works,” he said, adding: “What is good policy is what matters to the American people,” he added.
