Although President Donald Trump is giving Congress six months to pass immigration reform legislation before ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, commentator Corey Lewandowski told "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday that he's not optimistic Congress will meet that goal.
Lewandowski, who was campaign manager for Trump, said: "What I expect from Congress…. is probably more inaction.
"What we've seen in the first eight months of this administration is that they have not been able to fulfill the promises that the American people have sent them there to do, which includes repealing and replacing Obamacare, we don't have a tax reform package done yet, we don't have an infrastructure spending bill done yet and we got 11 legislative days left in the month of September when they're going to work, so I don't think Congress is going to take action anytime soon."
He added that the low approval rating of Congress shows that the American people also are pessimistic about the chances of getting legislation passed.
Lewandowski said he did not take much stock in legislators declaring after Trump's announcement that Congress must do something about DACA, because "They've been saying this all along … they've had eight months so far to deal with this issue, they've had years to deal with this issue under the previous administration and they chose not to do it."
He emphasized that it only "becomes a priority when they don't like what the president's actions are … they couldn't get it done before, they're not going to get it down now."
