Former FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday tweeted a photo of himself in a Biden-Harris T-Shirt with the message: “Vote for your country.”
The post quickly received backlash from both Democrat and Republican supporters.
“If you hadn't sabotaged Hillary I suspect 230,000 people might still be alive... not sure how you live with yourself...” wrote one user, referring to Hillary Clinton’s shocking defeat in the 2016 presidential election.
Clinton blamed Comey for losing the race to President Donald Trump, citing his decision to go public with the renewed probe into whether she mishandled classified information when she used a private email server while secretary of state from 2009 to 2012.
“Part of me wants to be proud of Comey for doing the right thing,” responded another user. “The other part of me wants to tell him to piss off after practically handing the election to Trump.”
JT Lewis, a member of Trump’s campaign team whose brother died in the Sandy Hook shooting, tweeted: “You were the “non biased, apolitical” FBI Director? LOL”
Trump fired Comey in 2017, citing his handling of the Clinton email probe.
