Gov. John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., said Friday he would make a final decision about running for president later this summer.
The Democratic governor said it was a "tremendous compliment" to be considered someone who should run for president.
"Every time someone asks the question, it is a tremendous compliment, and I take it very seriously," Hickenlooper said on Kaiser Health News' "What the Health?" podcast.
"My wife and I have been talking about it for a couple of months and talking to old friends whose opinion we respect and trust," Hickenlooper added.
HIckenlooper had been considered a top contender to be Hillary Clinton's running mate in 2016, but his pro-fracking environmental record earned him criticism from environmentalists, who called on Clinton to avoid choosing him, Politico reported in September 2016.
Colorado is holding primaries to get two top contenders to succeed Hickenlooper as governor, who is term-limited from running again. Four Republicans and four Democrats are in the running.
