Congress will reach an agreement on coronavirus relief funding over the weekend, but it's a "shame" the talks have had to go on for so long, Rep. Doug Collins said Friday.
"It's not like (this is) something we've not known that needed to happen," the Georgia Republican told Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo on "Mornings With Maria."
"We believe these things will all of a sudden magically happen and we don't have to work for it. Most of us have been asking for COVID relief and looking for it for businesses and individuals, so they can get back to work, for many months now. We've held up until now."
The bill that is eventually passed must be "targeted to the people who need the help, to getting the economy going, making sure we move forward, and not crippling our economy longterm," he added. "I think we'll get it done this weekend."
Collins also commented on the "double standard" he believes is going on with the media where Hunter Biden's dealings with China and Ukraine and with Rep. Eric Swalwell and his link to a suspected female Chinese spy are concerned.
He said that if President Donald Trump's son Donald Jr. or his daughter Ivanka "had any of this kind of trail," the matter would be an ongoing "every moment topic" with the mainstream media.
He added that he's "glad that Joe Biden is sticking up for his son," after the elder Biden told late-night host Stephen Colbert Thursday night that he has no concerns about his the accusations surrounding him.
"You can't just try to push under the rug what is happening here," said Collins. "These are real issues, things that have been investigated, they're being investigated right now by the Department of Justice. These are the things that cause concern going forward ... why should Americans not be worried?"
