Democrats on Capitol Hill are taking shots at President Donald Trump in the wake of a bombshell claim he provided classified information to the Russians.
Leading the charge is House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who said Trump "compromised" national security by sharing top secret information about the war on terror to America's Cold War foe during an Oval Office meeting last week.
"If news reports are true, President Trump has compromised a key source of intelligence collection against ISIS and jeopardized the security of the American people," Pelosi said in a statement.
"Even if President Trump unwittingly blew a highly classified code-word source to the Russians, that would be dangerous enough. If the President outed a highly classified code-word source intentionally, that would be even more dangerous."
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., meanwhile, shared his thoughts on the subject via his Twitter account:
A joint statement between Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, D-Md., the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Judiciary, also expressed concern over the report Trump gave classified information to Russia.
"We need to be clear, we do not know if these allegations are true or false, but if — IF — these allegations are true, President Trump may have just disclosed top secret information to the Russians and possibly jeopardized an intelligence source in the process," the statement read. "This is the same meeting in which Russian officials laughed with the president in front of Russian photographers inside the Oval Office, while members of the American press were excluded.
"After an unprecedented week in which many thought it would be impossible for President Trump to be any more irresponsible, he now may have sunk to a dangerous new low."
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., meanwhile, shared a statement on Twitter:
