Sen. Chuck Schumer on Tuesday said the proposed healthcare legislation by House Republicans was "a tax cut for the wealthy" and vowed that Democrats will fight it "tooth and nail," the Hill reports.
The American Health Care Act, which is being dubbed "TrumpCare" by some, would cut taxes for people earning more than $250,000 a year by killing a 0.9 percent surcharge on those earners' Medicare tax rate. House Republicans released the detailed proposal early Tuesday.
"This is a tax cut for the wealthy with some health insurance provisions tacked onto it," Schumer said. He added: "TrumpCare doesn't replace the Affordable Care Act, it forces millions of Americans to pay more for less care."
Congressional Republicans have been determined to repeal and replacing Obamacare, also a promise made by President Donald Trump on the campaign trail. The process to do so has started but the Trump administration and GOP lawmakers have not put together a legitimate replacement, or at least one they can all agree on.
