Sen. Chuck Grassley on Monday threw some free advice in the direction of President Donald Trump.
"If I were President of the United States and I had a lawyer that told me I could pardon myself, I think I would hire a new lawyer," Grassley, R-Iowa, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, told CNN.
Trump tweeted earlier Monday that he had the "absolute right to pardon myself," citing "legal scholars" - namely members of his legal team - who have stated the same.
Rudy Giuliani on Sunday suggested the president probably could pardon himself as he backed away from a January letter sent to special counsel Robert Mueller by Jay Sekulow and erstwhile Trump legal team member John Dowd asserting the same.
However, both Trump and Giuliani said there's no need for the self-pardon given that the president has done nothing wrong.
