President Donald Trump’s firing of Christopher Krebs as the director of the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency won’t change the mission of the agency, Emily Early, chief of staff at CISA, told employees in an email, according to Politico.
“A change in leadership is not a change in mission and it is essential that we do not lose focus on the important work we collectively undertake on behalf of the American people,” Early wrote. “Fortunately, we have the best workforce in all of government and I know we can count on each of you to continue the excellent work you do every day as we all work together to Defend Today and Secure Tomorrow.”
Krebs, a Trump appointee, knocked down allegations that the election count was tainted by fraud.
Trump in a tweet Tuesday said Krebs’ statement was “highly inaccurate.”
Several news outlets have called the race for Democrat Joe Biden, though Trump refuses to concede, citing voter fraud. Newsmax will not announce a winner until enough states certify votes.
CISA works with the state and local officials who run U.S. elections as well as private companies that supply voting equipment to address cybersecurity and other threats while monitoring balloting and tabulation from a control room at its headquarters near Washington, D.C. It also works with industry and utilities to protect the nation’s industrial base and power grid from threats.
