For all those joking on President Donald Trump's Alabama hurricane warning this week, the joke is on the media, because it was played by President Donald Trump, according to former N.J. GOP Gov. Chris Christie.
"I don't think it's hard to understand to him," Christie told ABC News' "This Week" of President Trump's incessant defense of his warning of Hurricane Dorian impacts in the state, including an alleged Sharpie-marked Hurricane Dorian map.
"People seem mystified by this. I'm mystified by them. This is who the president of the United States is."
Host George Stephanopoulos asked why the president just would not admit a mistake and let the Alabama warning story go?
"Because it drives you guys crazy," Christie said, adding "it's a distraction. I don't think the president thinks the distraction is bad for him.
"We're talking about the Sharpie. It's ridiculous."
Christie, who served on President Trump's transition team and led his opioid commission, said, "If you think this is accidental, it's not."
"He likes to fight back – that's impulsive – when he sees you react to it, it drowns out climate change, the hurricane, and everything else," Christie added.
