A Republican member of the House Intelligence Committee said Tuesday he would like Donald Trump Jr. to answer questions in front of his panel about the Russia probe.

In the wake of Trump Jr.'s release of emails that demonstrated Russia was at the very least rooting for his father to win the presidential election last year, Rep. Chris Stewart, R-Utah, spoke about the issue on CNN.

"This is one of those things the American people are going to wonder about and it's going to have a lot of unanswered questions, I think, unless he's willing to come and testify," Stewart said.

"I have to give him credit, thank you for releasing these emails, doing it very quickly. It gives you and I, in the media and those of us on the committee, a chance to really digest that. I think that was a good, positive step.

"There's probably more questions about this that these e-mails will raise and we look forward to having a chance to speak with Mr. Trump Jr. about this."

The New York Times reported Sunday about a meeting between a Russian lawyer and Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort that was set up to reveal dirt on Hillary Clinton. The emails Trump Jr. made public Tuesday are the chain of messages that show how the meeting was set up.
